Running with a side of picnic

Today was another day where my alarm couldn't get my ass out of my cozy bed. I did t mind that because I had a run with the boys on the schedule.

I really need to check out the front wheel, because if I try to run at any decent pace, it gets super wobbly. So, there are no sprints in my near future. That's a sad but happy thing.

I had planned to stop at this park (about a mile away) and let the boys (yes, Shane already loves the swings) play for a bit and then have a picnic before more playing and our run home.

They loved it! It was a cool and breezy morning, but they were dressed warm & it felt nice for me after pushing the double stroller.

This was the start of a very busy weekend (all fun things). I can't wait!

Do you have an idea why the front wheel of the stroller would be so wobbly? Do you like picnics?

1st run with the double stroller

I usually only run in the weekends, when Jasons home and we don't have to rush off anywhere first thing in the morning. Spring and summer time are very difficult to do that. We usually have things going on every single weekend.

I belong to a moms running group here and someone on there (never met them before) offered me there old double running stroller. It was so sweet of them. They did mention that it was pretty dirty & had been sitting in the rain. Since I like to clean, I figured why not?!? I picked it up (10 minutes away from my house) and it's not that bad. One sunny afternoon, Lars and I cleaned it while Shane napped. It does have some stains, where the boys sit. But, it's not as bad as I was imagining.

I took that bad boy out for a test run this morning. We ran across the street, at the very local park. Lars hasn't been in a stroller in a very long time, so I wasn't sure how he would do, especially sharing the stroller with his brother.

They did great! Shane kept his hands folded the entire time, watching the trees, birds and everything else in his view. Lars kept me entertained by pointing out every trash can and water fountain we ran by.

Lars didn't like that we kept running past the swings (and actual park play area). Once I explained we would go play once I ran 2 laps, he was fine.

I ended up running 2.36 miles at an extremely slow pace. I'll get faster once I get use to pushing both boys in this stroller. Tomorrow, we're going to run to another park (couple miles away), play and have a picnic. They will love it!

Who's your running partner (kids, dogs, another human, etc)?

Loving the attack of the abs

My stomach is feeling better today. So, when my alarm went off bright and early this morning, I desired a great ab attack!

It felt really good to flex these muscles (and not be coughing anymore)!

I've decreased the amount of bread and sweets I'm eating on a daily basis. With this (and my kick ass workouts), over the last few weeks, I've been able to loose a couple of pounds. I would like to loose just 2 more pounds and tone my upper thigh and butt area a little more.

I decided to try out a new ab workout this morning:

I'm in love with this one!! I was in the mood for something different. My abs are happily tight!

How often do you change out your workouts?

Back in full force!

Well, maybe not full force. But, I am back! My stomach has been a little achy, but I'm a lot better than I have been. My entire house got a cold that's been going around. I had the snot running down whenever my head wasn't pointed to the ceiling & a huge headache whenever I wasn't laying down (which wasn't too often with a 6 month old & a toddler), as well as some other common stuff.

Even though my stomach hurt, I still got up at 6 and got my arms hurting (in a good way).

We had a good Easter, yesterday. Here was dessert (strawberry shortcake),

And deviled eggs.

My boys loved what the Easter bunny brought and loved searching for eggs. Lars was a great big brother and helped Shane fill his basket.

Do you take time off of working out when you're sick? How was your Easter?

BooginHead Review

The awesome people at BooginHead were so kind to send my 2 boys some really cool products to try out. They have so many great things to check out. You should check them out!

Lars loves the screw top squeez'ems. This mom loves them too. I can make my own smoothie and put them inside. This is how I sneak in veggies into Lars' diet. The only down side to these is that Lars always wants to set them down (before they're finished). Since I make my smoothies pretty liquid-fied, they pour out. You could always make thicker smoothies and maybe they wouldn't pour out. The top screws on and off and they're super easy to fill and clean.

Another handy item that they carry is the SippiGrip. Since Shane can't control his arms yet, especially when we're going for a walk to the park, it comes in handy when he loses control and throws his toys from the stroller (especially a ball). He just pulls it back up from the attachment.

The splatmat is awesome because it can keep you dry on wet grass, or your floor clean during art project (or dinner, which is sometimes like an art project). It's 52" wide and can hold a bunch of stuff. I can't wait for better weather and we can take it outside! Lars always loves to play on it.

The huge hit in our house is the Sippisnack. It holds a snack and liquid (in our case gold fish and water) and one! Lars carries this everywhere. It stays in his room (without the snack) during nap and night time and all over the house and outside. It's perfect on the go! He has everything he needs in one place. I'll have to sneak it away from him sometime to finally wash it. He's pretty controlling over it.

One last thing (to make this mom's life a tad bit easier)...pack'ems. They are always in my baby bag. You can carry food, smaller toys, change, or anything you want. They have a great velcro closing at the top and can open up at the bottom, so they can stand up.

I carry Shane's smaller stuff in them (teething rings and rags). I also carry an extra, just in case something happens or I need to put a snack in something.

BooginHead really helps keep my life a little more sane. It helps my kids and makes their life a littel bit easier! I love that they love their stuff!

What keeps your life a little more sane? Workout wise, running, parenting?? Anything. I love tips!

Mid week run!!

Since the hubby was home for a doctors appointment today, I took advantage of the sunny morning & went for a run. It was so nice out this morning! The sun was shining, birds were chirping, a slight breeze was in the air and I was ready to run.

My legs were tired from yesterday's leg workout. I have t run in tired legs in a very long time. It was a tough run & my time was proof of it. Oh well, I had a great run!!

I had made green waffles for St. Patty's Day. When Lars woke up, he didn't want waffles (I pre-make them and then freeze them). He asked for eggs and toast. It wasn't a big deal, so that's what we had.

Earlier in the week, I had made foccia bread, and we finished it up last night. It was good (but not Lars approved).

Any fun plans tonight for St. Patty's Day? What did you have for dinner?

Sweating before the sun comes up

I just couldn't get myself up yesterday morning. If I don't get up at 6, my workout is the thing that gets eliminated out of my schedule.

I did manage to get up this morning, though! I'm glad I did! It was leg day. Even though I absolutely hate doing leg day, I love how I feel afterwards.

It was another sweaty workout. And, with the time change, I was finished before had made an appearance. Lazy sun! I'm doing curtsy lunges in the above picture. I hate doing those because I almost fall over when I do them. It's worth it because it works muscles I don't often work.

I'm working on a fun post for next week.

What workout do you hate doing, but love the results?

For the love of jumping jacks!!

Here's the recap from this weekend. I'll start with today and work backwards.

Getting up this morning was super tough, being the 2nd day of the time change. I hate any kind of time change! But, I managed to get up before the boys and get in my cardio workout! I'm super proud of myself. My workout was mainly a ton of jumping jacks & some squats, lunges, crunches and burpees thrown in there. The 30 burpees and 35 push ups are what really killed me this morning!

Yesterday was super stormy (heavy wind and tons of hard rain). It was also the 1st day of the time change. I just couldn't get my butt out the door to run my miles. So, I decided I'd be happier (& not regret) staying home with my family and staying in my pjs. It was time well spent!

I did have a break in the rain on Saturday morning, so I was able to get out there. Trees were down and leaves were everywhere. It was still so nice out & I loved sweating out in the sunshine!

What's the weather like in your neck of the woods? We are suppose to be back in the mid 70s for the weekend!

Arms & a burned pepper

It was another hard day on my arms. Holding Shane is going to kill them today! I remember when I first started working out (after having Shane), it was so difficult  lifting weights (really any workout was tough). I'm seeing a lot of progress and it makes me uber happy.

Shane has started solid foods (last month). I make everything myself from fresh fruits and veggies. One thing I remember Lars loving was green bell peppers. I know, odd, right?!? So, I decided to make them for Shane.

In order to blend the pepper, I had to peel the skin. How you peel a bell pepper is to burn the pepper. The skin, that is. I held it over an open fire (with tongs) until I heard a lot of popping and the skin was chard. Once the skin was chard, it was so easy to peel off.

It's pretty tedious to make this meal, but I wanted to see Shane would like it as much as Lars did. I tried it out (I purée everything with my breast milk). Come to find out, Shane hates the peppers, even when I mixed it with other things he loves (like yams). Oh well. That's how I know what he prefers. It was worth it!

What did you workout today? Did you child like anything uncommon?

A little to the right

Another bright and early morning for me. It was an ab morning. I like these mornings because I've been doing this workout (with a couple modifications) for years! I don't need to wake up enough to use my brain, it's automatic. It usually takes me about 20 minutes to work my abs. I don't take breaks & I push myself the entire time.

One of the moves is to do a side plank and lift up and down. This movement is great for the obliques!

Tomorrow, I'm going to post about making a special baby food for Shane.

How do you work your obliques?

A run after the storm

On Saturday, it really stormed here! Trees fell over (not in our yard), branches blew off, palm debris was everywhere and so much more. It made running after the storm an obstacle course. At one point, I had to go in the middle of the street in order to get around a huge tree. When I got back from my run, Shane and I went outside to watch Lars & Jason pick up sticks.

Here's my WOD. I did this three times and got a little sweaty. It's not like when I do my legs! But, I still feel satisfied when I'm finished! The first time I did this workout, I only did one round and felt tired and dead! I'm really showing some progress!! I'm so glad I'm getting my body and fitness level back.

After the boys woke up, they were fed and dressed, it was a movie kind of morning. It's dark, cloudy and rainy here today, so it's the perfect day! Here they are cuddling watching Lorax. Lars loved it, but Shane could only watch a couple of minutes (he is only 5 months old).

Do you venture out between storms for your runs? What do you like to do on rainy days?

Runners arms

Today was arm day. I'm seeing some results in my arms. Of course, a lot of work still needs to be done. But, I'm getting happier! When I run, I think I subconsciously flex my arms, so that also works them. I love a full body workout!

Another sunrise after my completed arm workout. Love seeing this when I finish. It's like a "treat" to say good job Shelly!

Last night, I added some color to our dinner for Dr Suess. It was his birthday yesterday. We celebrated by making this dinner and reading a few of his books. Lars loves his abc book & hop on pop.

I hope I can hold Shane and catch arms, when he jumps in my arms today. They're spagetti right now.

Did you celebrate Dr Suess's birthday yesterday?

What did I do at 6am?

Waking up at 6am has become a routine. Don't get me wrong, I'm tired, but use to it. Today was my leg day. I still can't believe I did 200 squats, 180 walking lunges, 140 sumo squats & SO much more!

It felt good to be drenched with sweat that early in the morning. It's something I've missed since my training days. I use to wake up at 4am, run to the gym, workout for an hour, run home & then workout for 2 hours after a full day at work. I got fit really fast back then!

Look who woke up early this morning & kept me coming while I worked out. Lars loves playing with the watering nozzle.

I've already drank 5 bottles of water and I've only been awake for 2.5 hours! I guess I'm thirsty. I have to keep myself hydrated for breastfeeding.

What were you doing at 6am?

Abs for the win!

Before I get to my WOD, I just have to say I am so glad I took a couple days off of working out! When I woke up at 6am, I was so refreshed & ready to work out. I craved it and was ready.

I felt so good to work my abs. I really feel like I'm making some progress & can start seeing my obliques & now have a 2 pack.

When I work my abs, I rarely wear shoes. I don't jump or run around or anything. I usually stick to my mat.

My afternoon snack! Still loving the greek yogurt, granola and peanut butter mixture. It fuels me for the rest of the day (and allows me to keep up with my 2 wiggle worms).

Do you always wear shoes working out? What's your go to snack?
